Rules of golf are the uniform procedures for playing the golf. These rules are published by R & A or USGA (dominant bodies of golf) for every four years to define the methods of playing golf. Rules Committee of R & A (Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) is responsible for framing world wide rules except in United States and Mexico where it is done by United States Golf Association (USGA).
As per these rule making committees ‘Rules’ of golf includes Decision on the rules of golf which is a book issued for every two years by USGA to clarify the doubts and queries related to rules. Local rules formulated by the golf club committee regarding the boundaries of ball drops, course and areas, rules of etiquette defining the behavior of the game, rules related with prevention of using automotive transportation and temporary immovable obstructions, rules related to the shape, size and performance of equipments and the rules related to the disabled golfers are also included in the term ‘Rules’ in golf.
