The Yips is an expression used to describe an obvious loss of ability very often in any of the sport. An amateur or a professional sportsman struck by the yips may recover, change the technique or forced to give up the sport at any level. The term “yips” was generalized by a golf champion, Tommy Armour so as to describe the troubles that resulted in giving up the tournament. While defining the yips, some of the terms used by the golf players are twitches, jitters, jerks and staggers. The yips can affect all the mature golfers and the researches show that about 33 to 48 percent of the golf players have been affected by the yips. Players with more than 25 years of experience have faced this condition more. Yips can cause due to several reasons but the exact cause has not been determined yet. It can occur due to the biochemical changes happening in the brain, too much use of the muscles and a condition known as focal dystonia.
