Stimpmeter

Stimpmeter is a machine used to determine the speed and distance (in feet) of a golf track putting green by employing a known force to the golf ball. The device was invented by Edward Stimpson. The ball is released at a known rate by the angled trail which helps in measuring the distance traveled by it on the green. Formerly woods were used to make stimpmeter. However in 1976, Frank Thomas who was a member of United States Golf Association redesigned it with aluminum. It is made up of aluminum bar with a width of 1.75inches and length of 36 inches. Its groove is angled at 1450 with a V-shape that extends all through its length with the ball underneath at both ends. It narrows towards the end and detaches from the metal, so that the bounce of the ball can be reduced. The right angled notch of this device is 30 inches long. The notch is a hole that draws the ball when it is raised to an angle of 200 there by measuring its distance and speed.
