The Masters champions of Golf have given privileges to play in the three majors (U.S.Open, the Open Championship, and PGA Championship) and they will also receive membership on the PGA Tour and invitations to the Players Championship for five years.
The tournament was established by the amateur golfer Bobby Jones. Masters has a custom of honoring winners of the amateur tournaments in the world. The tournament will be inaugurated by one of the golf’s legendary players, with an honorary opening tee shot at the first hole. In 2007, and in 2008, Arnold Palmer took over as the honorary starter.
The Champions' dinner is held each year on the Tuesday evening preceding Thursday's first round. The menu for the dinner is selected by the defending champion. The Par 3 Contest has been played traditionally since 1960 on the Wednesday before the tournament starts. Masters also has the tradition of wearing uniform consisting of a white jumpsuit, a green Masters cap, and white tennis shoes.
