Shaft Golf

The cylindrical shaped shaft in a golf club that connects the player’s hand to the club head is usually made of graphite or steel. The main function of a shaft is to produce centrifugal force so that the golfer can hit the golf ball efficiently. In olden days the shafts were made up of wood which required a powerful swing to make a shot. Later in 1900’s they experimented steel shafts that became popular because of its flexibility. By the end of twentieth century, graphite shafts woven out of carbon fiber were introduced. As these shafts are light weighted, it helped the golfers in producing greater club head speed. Only a single layer of fibre was used in the beginning. But the modern shafts consist of three layers of fiber winding with enhanced stiffness and increased performance. Some of the leading companies manufacturing composite shafts are Aldila, Fujikura, Mitsubishi, UST and Grafalloy.
