| RULES AND REGULATIONS IN GOLF
The internationally standardised rules and regulations of golf are governed jointly by ‘United States Golf Association’ (USGA) and ‘Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews’ (R & A). R & A was founded in 1754. As per R & A norms, the interpretation and enforcement of rules laid down by USGA jurisdiction is limited to Mexico and United States only. Other countries strictly follow R & A rules and rare relaxations are given on the basis of particular course. The rules and regulations will be updated each and every year. But ‘fairness’ remains the underlying principle in golf rules. On the back page of the official book on golf, it is clearly stated that the ball should be played as it lies and play with the same course as it is. No assistance should be used while making a stroke. In the rule book, it is also stated that the ball can be replaced only if it is lost, destroyed or unplayable. In addition to general printed rules, golfers should follow the ‘golf etiquette’. It generally deals with the safety, easiness, pace and fairness of play.
